Using a tablet PC enabled this health care device manufacturer
synchronize efficiently the various teams working on parallel projects.
The Abbott point-of-care division takes care of installing
specialized equipment in hospitals and emergency rooms.
This needs a well orchestrated team of engineers, project
managers, hospital staff and trainers to be on the same page
during a complex process. The tool enables the scheduling and
tracking of the project, and training, and archival of project
histories.
A tablet PC was chosen as the device that the team would use
to run the application because of it's portability and it's large
screen allowing easy access to reports and charts in the field.
The critical aspect of design was understanding the interface
challenges and advantages of the Tablet PC and how they
could be best utilized by this multidisciplinary team to maximize
efficiency. Another challenge was to maintain the narrative
during a project, so that in the event of a change of staff
during an implementation, all members of the team could see
what the next steps would be and could refer back to history.
The implementation of this project increased efficiency dramatically
and enabled diverse team members to work together more efficiently.
